Commentary:
For the week ending the 3rd of July 2012 a strong high pressure ridge brought clear conditions for most of Australia, resulting in little rain for most of the continent. A coastal surface trough brought rain to southeast Queensland and northeast NSW early in the week, while a surface trough produced rain in parts of southeast Australia mid-week.
Falls of greater than 25 mm were recorded in southeast Queensland and northeast NSW, with parts of the coast recording more than 50 mm. The highest recorded weekly total, 165 mm, was recorded at Tallowood in southeast Queensland. Falls above 25 mm were also recorded in parts of southwest and northeast Victoria, southeast SA, northern Tasmania, and in the Margaret River region of WA.
Falls of between 5 and 25 mm were recorded in most of the remaining areas of Victoria and Tasmania, as well as along the south and east coasts of Australia. Most of the Australian mainland recorded little to no rainfall at all during the week.
