CH4 opens large-scale Asparagopsis facility at Port Lincoln

12 Feb 2025

CH4 Global has officially opened phase one of its first full-scale EcoPark, where it has begun to grow and process Asparagopsis in 10 large-scale cultivation ponds with a combined capacity of two million litres – capable of producing 80 metric tonnes of the seaweed each year.

Over the next year, the facility will expand to 100 ponds capable of producing enough Asparagopsis to serve 45,000 cattle per day – a significant step toward meeting demand from CH4 Global’s existing commercial partners in Australia and beyond. With additional investment, the facility could eventually expand to 500 ponds capable of serving hundreds of thousands of cattle per day.

The EcoPark in Louth Bay, 23km north of Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula, consists of research and development facilities, a seedling hatchery, patented in-land

growth ponds, and harvesting and drying technologies to convert Asparagopsis into CH4 Global’s Methane Tamer products – allowing end-to-end production.

The EcoPark will sustainably grow methane-reducing Asparagopsis at scale. Asparagopsis, which is a red seaweed native to South Australia, drastically reduces methane emissions from cows by up to 90 per cent.

CH4 Global founder and Chief Executive Dr Steve Meller said the EcoPark was the first commercial facility of its kind, enabling the scalable propagation of Asparagopsis to meet the needs of feedlots under contract.

NAB commits to regional and rural branches

11 Feb 2025

NAB has announced it will not close any branches in its rural and regional network until at least 31 July 2027.

The announcement comes as the bank continues to expand its customer-centric initiatives, including the recent introduction of Saturday branch openings.

Group Executive for Personal Banking, Ana Marinkovic said: “While digital banking continues to evolve, we firmly believe that face-to-face banking services remain essential for many Australians.

“Our recent move to Saturday branch openings demonstrates our conviction that while digital is foundational, a human touch is just as important in the moments that matter for our customers”

NAB maintains the strongest regional presence of any major bank in Australia, with 47 percent of its branch network serving regional communities.

NAB is also pleased to have reached a new in-principle agreement with Australia Post to continue to support Bank@Post services, particularly in regional and rural Australia, and at the same time support the small business owners who run them.
