Beef 2024 Preview

Beef 2024: Wednesday is Hump Day

Beef Central, 24/04/2024

THE southern hemisphere’s biggest reverse flow smoker will be back in action serving up mouth-watering barbecue delicacies including slow-cooked Brahman humps at Beef 2024 in Rockhampton.

The smoker was hand crafted by Rockhampton based cattle breeder, barbecue specialist and Australian Brahman Breeders Association senior vice president Matthew Noakes for his Smokin Yak BBQ business, as written about previously by Beef Central.

This year the famous smoker will be in the expert hands of Texan raised barbecue specialist and former US Marine Corp veteran Sethro Mooney, who has lived in Australia since 2003.

Wednesday, May 8 at Beef 2024 is naturally hump day, and to mark the occasion the Australian Brahman Breeders Association will be partnering with Sethro Mooney and the Smokin Yak to serve up mouthwatering Brahman humps during the day.

Originally from Houston, Texas, Sethro Mooney moved to Geelong, Victoria just over 20 years ago.

When he couldn’t find Texas-style barbecue locally, he began making his own in his backyard.

Before long he was feeding the neighbourhood, which in turn led to him starting his own popular restaurant in Geelong, Sethro’s BBQ.

A few years ago Sethro moved to Yeppoon near Rockhampton, bringing his barbecue skills with him, and he now serves real Texas barbecue to locals and tourists from his own food truck in the CQ coastal town.

Sethro will be one of several barbecue specialists keeping hungry crowds at the Beef 2024 BBQ precinct well fed throughout the week long expo. Apart from the Brahman hump feature on Wednesday, he will showcase Teys Certified Black Angus beef throughout this year’s event.
