Dalby sale 1 May 2024: Numbers increase by 738

The number of cattle penned at Dalby increased by 738 head to 3,861.

A full panel of export buyers were present with some additional support on the cows and bullocks. The regular feed and trade buyers were active plus restockers.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock sold to fair demand for the quality penned.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers followed a similar trend.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 10c/kg better. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed improved in price. Heavy weights experienced very little change in price. A small sample of bullocks sold to a dearer market.

Most classes of cows lifted in price by 7c to 10c/kg. The highlight of the sale was a single steer with show ring potential at 320kg returning $3,264/head. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 434c to average 387c/kg. Yearling steers under 330kg to restockers made to 414c to average 373c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 343c and made to 360c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 346c to average 330c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 276c and averaged from 251c to 262c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to the occasional 345c to average 295c and heavy weights made to 310c to average 271c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 344c to average 340c and the bullocks sold to 319c to average 310c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows to processors made to 201c and averaged 197c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 212c and made to 218c/kg. Good heavy weight cows made to a top of 235c to average 226c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 280c/kg.
