Roma store sale 16 Apr 2024: Light yearling steers stronger

Yarding: 9190 Change: +5555

With the roads drying out and the back log of cattle Roma Agents yarded 9,190 head 5,555 more than the previous sale. Cattle were drawn from a large supply area of Qld as well as Western NSW.

The market showed price fluctuations due to quality. Light weight yearling steers to restockers were considerably stronger selling from 322c to 470c to average 414c/kg.

Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold to 456c with the 280 to 330kg also selling well topping at 446c/kg. Medium weight steers lost ground sold 420c/kg.

Yearling steers 400 to 480kg struggled to maintain prices however restockers paid to 366c/kg Light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 322c/kg. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg sold from 200c to 308c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg could not maintain the levels of last sale selling to 300c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg also battled and made to 280c/kg. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg made to 296c/kg. Grown steers 600 to 750kg topped at 288c/kg. Grown heifers over 540kg also sold to 288c/kg.

A large yarding of cows penned with all processors present and active however the market could not maintain the levels of last sale. Restockers were active on the store condition cows. The 2 score portion 400 to 520kg sold to 210c with the 3 score cows selling to 224c and averaged 212c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls to 256c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 470c/kg and averaged 426c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 456c/kg and averaged 378c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 446c/kg and averaged 361c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 386c/kg and averaged 340c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 366c/kg and averaged 313c/kg.

RA Ware & AJ Horvath, mungallala sold Black Simmental steers to 428c/kg, reaching a top of $1,131 to average $1,092.  The Black Simmental heifers sold to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $804 to average $738.

Callum Crozier, Beverly Hills, Mitchell sold Charolais steers to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $913 to average $904.

JT & LK Postle, Cliffview, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $1,274 to average $1,258.

HP Grazing ATF Hurford Trust, Belgaum, St George sold Simbrah cross steers to 414c/kg, reaching a top of $1,197 to average $1,156.

Grab Pastoral Co, Idaho, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 380c/kg, reaching a top of $1,053 to average $1,053.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $838 to average $827.

Borehead Pastoral Co, Malakoff, Cloncurry sold Charolais steers to 376c/kg, reaching a top of $1,321 to average $1,204.  The Charolais heifers sold to 286c/kg, reaching a top of $1,054 to average $725.

Whitton Cattle Co, Myrtleville, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,342 to average $1,302.  The Charolais heifers sold to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $1,035 to average $994.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 142c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 216c/kg, averaging 187c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 224c/kg, averaging 204c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 240c/kg, averaging 212c/kg.
